London, April 4 (ANI): New details have emerged about Olivia Newton-John's ex-flame Patrick McDermott, who has been living in a small Mexican beach town ever since he disappeared off the California coast in 2005.
People of Sayulita, a small Pacific resort, have revealed how a man locally known as Pat Kim worked as a ship's mate on a yacht that takes tourists on short trips to sea.
"He seemed to work hard and keep a low profile," the Telegraph quoted a fisherman, as saying.
He added: "I haven't seen him for a couple of months."ccording to Mark Rubio, an American hotelier, McDermott's past and his identity had come to light in the recent months.
He said: "We realised who he was but nobody was bothered.
"He kept to himself and hung out down the coast. He hadn't done anything wrong and this is a pretty relaxed place."
McDermott was presumed dead after he disappeared off the California coast following a fishing trip five years ago.
Newton-John had said his disappearance was "heartbreaking".
However, last week a private detective hired by an American TV network said he had concluded "beyond a reasonable doubt" that McDermott was still alive.
Philip Klein did not divulge any details, saying he was penning a book but now it has been established that McDermott has been working as crew on the twin-hulled yacht Sayula 1.
The boat's American captain, Darrin Rath, said: "I haven't seen him for a while."
Speaking in heavily accented Spanish he added: "I don't want any problems because of him."
However, Jesus Rodriguez, a mustachioed fisherman, said he had often come across McDermott.
He said: "He was a very tranquil man.
"He kept himself to himself and didn't mess with people in this community.
"Sometimes he would have a few drinks in the bar. But he would be relaxed and not cause trouble. I was very surprised when I heard he had been in some kind of trouble. But then we heard it was just because he was the boyfriend of some American film star or something." (ANI)
