Shimla, Mar 25 (ANI): Theatre artists from different parts of the country participated in the six-day spring festival in Shimla.

The Chetra Rang Mahotsava, which began on Wednesday, concludes on March 29.

The North Zone Cultural Centre of Patiala and the state government's Department of Language and Culture are the organizers of the event.

Prem Sharma, the Director of the Language and Culture Department of Himachal Pradesh, said theatre airs socially relevant issues.

"With the help of theatre, literature writers are writing about social issues for the betterment of the society and strengthening women's power also, so that people develop interest in poetry. Theatre should help to solve the social issues, which is the main role of theatre," said Sharma.

"What we present before the audience is important. We should not spoil their taste, we should present good things before them so that better thought and better traditions are developed in them, which they can carry in the future. It should not happen that we present cheap things before them in order to go easy," said Abhimanyu Pandey, a theatre artiste.

The theatre artists are supposed to perform a Hindi play every evening at the Gaiety Theatre.

These plays have been taken from Hindi literature with an objective to spread awareness and entertain society through the medium of theatre. (ANI)
