Leh, Sept 3 (ANI): A fortnight long Ladakh festival, an annual cultural extravaganza commenced in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir amidst much fanfare and gaiety.
The inaugural ceremony witnessed a cultural extravaganza in the form of a procession taken out through the roads of Leh presenting the rich heritage of Ladakh.
The participants, bedecked in beautiful ethnic dresses with glittering hues, presented virtual tableaux of the traditions of the hilly expanse.A big procession by various cultural troupes from all corners of Ladakh was taken out from Chhubi Leh which after passing through the Leh market culminated at Leh Polo- ground where the main function was held.
In his inaugural speech, Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra underlined the need for more development projects for the region.
"We have also discussed that the cost of carrying out development works in the Leh district is much higher than in the plains. We have decided that the Leh Development Council will get an additional budget of ten crores or 100 million," said Vohra.
The opening ceremony presented a visual exhibition of it's predominantly Buddhist culture, for the tourists coming from all part of the country and abroad.
