Press watchdog upholds Dannii Minogue's privacy complaints

London, Wed, 10 Feb 2010 ANI

London, Feb 10 (ANI): The Press Complaints Commission (PCC) has upheld Dannii Minogue's complaints against two British tabloids over invasion of privacy.

Minogue, 38, had complained that the Daily Mirror and Daily Record reported she was pregnant before her 12-week scan, which can establish the health of an unborn baby.

The press watchdog held that the articles were a "regrettable lapse in editorial judgement", reports the BBC.

Both tabloids will now have to publish the PCC's full adjudication.

The Daily Mirror and Daily Record had argued their case by claiming that information about Minogue's pregnancy had appeared on the Sydney Morning Herald website and a blog a day earlier.

Both said this made the information available to the public and it had consequently ceased to be private.

However, the PCC rejected the argument and said any previous references had been speculative and not confirmed as fact.

The press code regarding privacy concerning health matters says: "As a matter of common sense newspapers and magazines should not reveal news of an individual's pregnancy without consent before the 12-week scan, unless the information is known to such an extent that it would be perverse not to refer to it."

In January, Minogue confirmed she was expecting a baby with boyfriend Kris Smith. (ANI)
