Pak court exempts Malik from appearance

Karachi, Sun, 31 Jan 2010 ANI

Karachi, Jan.31 (ANI) : An accountability court here has accepted Interior Minister Minister Rehman Malik's plea seeking exemption from court appearance.

Malik's counsel Khwaja Naveed requested the court to exempt Malik from appearing in the court in connection with a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) case citing security reasons, The Daily Times reports.

Naveed tabled various reports by law enforcement agencies, which said that various MNAs, MPAs, and federal and provincials ministers are under threat.

It is pertinent to mention here that NAB had filed the case in 1997 alleging that Malik had misused his powers when he was the additional director in the Federal Investigation Agency.

He was accused for using his authority in smuggling coal tar to Afghanistan after purchasing it from the National Refinery. The case was reopened after the Supreme Court's verdict on the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO). (ANI)
