The Merchants of Bollywood musical heading to Canada

Toronto, Jan 23 (ANI): Producers of The Merchants of Bollywood will kick start the North American tour of the glitzy musical from Canada.

The play will open at the newly renovated Sony Centre for the Performing Arts in November.

The show's Australian producer, Mark Brady, confirmed that he expects to mount the show at the Sony Centre from Nov. 2 to 14 as the opening leg of a North American tour that will also land it at the New York City Centre and elsewhere across the United States.

"We have an arrangement directly with the Sony Centre and CAMI [Columbia Artists Management Inc.] in New York," the Globe and Mail quoted Brady as saying in an e-mail.

Dan Brambilla, the Sony Centre's CEO, said the sides "are in discussions" and that "it's a possibility," but that "nothing is clear yet" and "we're not signed."

The centre has been closed for renovations, but is scheduled to reopen in October.

Brady said that a "deal memo has been signed," adding, "We are coming!"

The show features energetic dance numbers, written and directed by Toby Gough.

It is based on the true story of the Merchant family, prominent players for the last eight decades in the Hindi film industry and is choreographed by a member of the family, Vaibhavi Merchant. (ANI)
