5 policemen suspended for beating mentally challenged man in Dumka

Dumka (Jharkhand), Aug 9 (ANI): At least five policemen, including one Sub-Inspector, were suspended by the Jharkhand police on Sunday for beating a mentally challenged person accused of attacking his mother with a knife.

 

The incident occurred at a government hospital in Jharkhand's Dumka district on Saturday.

 

"Five policemen, including one sub-inspector, have been suspended for beating a mentally challenged youth in a hospital in Dumka district. Explanation has been sought from the suspended policemen, " said a police official in Ranchi.

 

Meanwhile, the Jharkhand police headquarters has also sought a report on the incident from Dumka Superintendent of Police AK Singh.

 

Earlier on Saturday, some cops in civil dress were hown on television channels, beating the mentally challenged Ramvilash Thakur with batons.

 

Police officials, however, had said that they just used 'mild force' to control Thakur after he had knifed his mother. (ANI)
