Alonso should not quit Liverpool for Real Madrid: Benitez

London, July 26 (ANI): Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has said Xabi Alonso should not quit the club for Spain's Real Madrid.

Alonso, who is currently on a Far East tour with Liverpool, and has received a rapturous ovation from Singapore fans, was told by Benitez not to consider leaving the club.

Benitez told a press conference in Singapore: "I was talking to him yesterday and telling him to listen to the fans. They love Xabi. I said to him, 'Maybe you have to stay.'

"All the players want him to stay. They want to win and be contenders this year. If we keep Xabi I will be very pleased, and I feel the same way about Javier Mascherano," The Sun quoted him, as saying.

Meanwhile, Jermaine Jenas has rubbished reports of him quitting the Tottenham Spurs for Aston Villa. (ANI)
