Islamabad, May 28 (IANS) The government in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province (NWFP) has announced cash rewards worth millions of rupees for information leading to the arrests of 21 feared Taliban militants roaming freely in the country, a media report said Thursday.
Provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar made the announcement late Wednesday for the arrests of 21 high-ranking militants belonging to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) group, Geo TV said.
The report said Rs.4 million will be awarded for information leading to the arrest of Taliban leader Molvi Fazlullah, Rs.4 million for Haji Muslim Khan, a spokesman of the group, Rs.5 million for Naib Ameer, and Rs.3 million for Qari Mushtaq Gali, among others.
The government announcement was published in the local newspapers. The note said the names of people, providing information, will be kept secret. The contact telephone numbers were also published.
The Pakistan Army has launched a massive operation to eliminate the Taliban militants in the restive province. Hundreds of militants have been killed since the operation begun last month. Thousands of people have been displaced in the conflict, raising global concerns for safety of the civilians.
