Some other legends say that the place has served as the capital of the kingdom of Lav, son of Lord Rama. Some others say that the city seems to have got its name from the `Jalandhar’ meaning the land submerged inside the water. So it appears that there is no anonymity on the origin of the word Jalandhar. The city always remains in limelight due to its prominence and latest news form Jalandhar can be found round the year.
Sandwiched between the plain of Beas and Sutlej Rivers the region is known for its fertile soil. Well connected by road and rail networks, it is also a bustling market for agricultural products. In addition the city is also known for its various big and small industries that produces textiles, leather goods, wood products, and sporting materials. The city of Jalandhar has served as the capital of Punjab after independence before it was shifted to Chandigarh in 1953. The city enjoys great accessibility, as it is well connected by rail and road networks from different parts of India and the world. Situated 146 kms north of state capital Chandigarh, the city lie on Delhi-Amritsar Highway. The nearest airport to the city is situated in Amritsar, 90 kms from here.
The city features a humid subtropical climate, where winters are cold and summers are hot. The economy of Jalandhar is based on agriculture and industries. There are numerous tourists attractions in Jalandhar, prominent among them are Devi Talab Mandir, Gurdwara Chhevin Padshahi, St Marys Cathedral Church,Pushpa Gujral Science City. To cater to the tourists influx to the city there are a host of hotels in Jalandhar.
