Roy, Evelyn Trent Roy (Roy's wife), Abani Mukherji, Rosa Fitingof (Abani's wife), Mohammad Ali (Ahmed Hasan), Mohammad Shafiq Siddiqui and M.P.B.T. Acharya were founding members of the party. However in 2008, the part withdrawn its support from the UPA government citing reasons of United States-India Peaceful Atomic Energy Cooperation Act.
