Cancer is still the gravest nightmare of the health care initiatives and modern medical science as a whole. And for the past few decades this disease has risen in the potential and depth to make the health care initiatives and medical facilities busy with the challenges of the disease in an unprecedented way. Anal cancer is one of the major types of cancer in the lower intestines and presently millions of people are suffering from this disease worldwide. Here we would describe various aspects of the disease starting from the definition, reason of the disease, symptom of the disease, stages of the disease and the life threatening consequences of the disease.
The definition of anal cancer
Anus is the lowest end opening in the lower part of the large opening through which we pass the regular bowel movement and relive ourselves of the accumulated toxic wastes in our body. The anal canal has a length of just an inch and half and the inner lining of the canal is made up of different types of cells. The anal canal ends in the colon or rectum. When the cancerous tumor is developed into the anal canal, it is called to be the anal cancer. Some types of tumors in the anal canal can be of benign or non-cancerous types and they are potentially less dangerous as health care concern.
The types of anal cancer and various symptoms
Anal cancer can be of very diverse types. Here we would introduce some of the major types of anal cancer along with their locations and syndromes.
Some condition that can later develop into anal cancer
Some kind of changes in the mucosa of the anal canal and anal pathway can develop into anal cancer in the later stage. Dysplasia is one such potential condition that can later develop into anal cancer.
Carcinoma in situ
Sometimes externally some cells in the anus looks like to be cancerous but do not grow into the deeper layers of the anal canal. This condition is called Carcinoma in situ. Some doctors consider it as the earliest form of anal cancer while some consider it to be a pre-cancer condition that is likely to be developed into anal cancer if not addressed with proper medical care.
Invasive anal cancers
The types of anal cancers that can develop into full-fledged types of anal cancer by invading into other organic functions and processes are called invasive anal cancers. Most notable types of invasive anal cancers include squamous cell carcinomas, cloagenic carcinomas, adenocarcinomas, basal cell carcinomas, malignant melanoma, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, etc. Invasive anal cancers can be of varied intensity and stages of development and can be life threatening.
The risk factors associated with anal cancer
The risk factors of having anal cancer can be of very different types and these risk factors can be classified into two major types, respectively as life style oriented risk factors and prevailing health condition oriented risk factors. The major risk factors associated with anal cancer include infection through HPV virus, having many sexual intercourse partners, playing receptive role in the anal intercourse, having fistulas or abnormal openings nearby anus, extremely painful syndromes of piles, anal redness and frequent swelling, soreness and pain in the anal path, etc.
The above mentioned aspects of anal cancer as mentioned above are important for being aware of the disease and in regard to the requirement of availing proper medication for any type of irregularities in the areas close to the anus and anal canal that can be fatal in the long run to develop into the syndromes of anal cancer.
